Employees Share Their Success Stories

They work in different communities, and they hold different positions, but the Covenant Retirement Communities staff members showcased here also have many things in common, including respect for their fellow staff members and a commitment to the residents whose lives they enrich.

Read their testimonials, and you’ll quickly see why a career with CRC is so much more than a job.

Marilyn Wagner - Covenant Village of Colorado LPN
Nominated by residents and family members, Marilyn Wagner, LPN at the Covenant Village of Colorado Care Center, was recently recognized by the Alzheimers Association with an Excellent Service Nomination Award.  The award was presented to Marilyn by Toni Haag, Director of Nursing Services, in a town hall meeting attended by residents and staff.

Cindy Foody – Covenant Village of Florida Housekeeping Supervisor
When Cindy joined Covenant Village of Florida as a housekeeper in 2004, she planned for it to be her last job before retiring. So she was pleasantly surprised when she was recommended for her current position as housekeeping supervisor. In addition to the support of her supervisors, Cindy lists simple resident appreciation as her favorite reason for working at CRC. “The residents here are like my family,” Cindy says, “I can’t imagine working anywhere else.”

Gloria Hall – Covenant Village of Northbrook Certified Nursing Assistant
“My job is challenging, but I love it,” says certified nursing assistant Gloria Hall, adding “I really love helping the elderly.” Gloria has worked at Covenant Village of Northbrook for 22 years, which has given her the opportunity to make a difference in many lives. Rewarding work, great coworkers and a generous benefits package not only contribute to Gloria’s longevity – they also strengthen her commitment to make the community as great a place to live as it is to work.

Octavio Huerto – Windsor Park Dining Services Stockroom Manager
He might be biased because he works in dining services, but Octavio believes the food is what residents like best at Windsor Park Manor. "Nacho" as he's known around the community wears many hats – stockroom and food delivery manager, cook, baker  – he even helps wash the floors and clean the kitchen. He enjoys both the residents and his work so much that he’s been at Windsor Park for 19 years; he even encouraged his son Oscar to work there too. Octavio doesn't mind doing “a little bit of everything,”  because he knows anything he does to make the community a better place will make the residents happy too.

Mike Ortega – The Samarkand Director of Environmental Science
Mike began his career at The Samarkand’s laundry facility in May 1993, and immediately knew the community was a good fit for him. Senior staff encouraged and mentored Mike as moved on to jobs in painting, maintenance and finally to his current position as Director of Environmental Services. Through his various roles, one thing has remained consistent for Mike: “I feel good about making a difference in residents’ lives and contributing to their happiness and well-being,” he says. Today, Mike finds reward in watching his own team live the CRC mission, knowing that he’s helping a new generation serve the residents who have come to mean so much in his own life.

Dixie Souza – Covenant Village of Turlock Administrative Secretary
As an administrative secretary at Covenant Village of Turlock, Dixie enjoys interacting with residents for everything from answering questions to scheduling transportation. “It’s something new here every day," Dixie says, "but it's never stressful because the wonderful staff works together to get things done.  Dixie, who's held several positions at Turlock, is especially excited about Turlock's new building - the first during her 11-year tenure.  She adds, "With our wonderful new building and our closeness to the city, the coast and Yosemite, we really do have it all!"
